This review summarizes the various methods implemented with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to predict mass transfer in structured packings. Interfacial mass transfer approaches with application to future structured packing studies are discussed. Intraphase mass transfer methodologies used in structured packing CFD studies are summarized, including methods applicable in turbulent flow conditions. Key findings and results from CFD structured packing studies are presented. Despite significant progress in this field, many effects need future research, particularly mass transfer in non-dilute conditions and mass transfer with a simultaneous chemical reaction.
